چکیده

The vitamin B12 coenzyme adenosylcobalamin assists the enzymic catalysis of molecular rearrangements of the type (formula; see text) in which the migrating group X can be OH, NH2 or a suitable substituted carbon atom such as C(=CH2)CO2H. This paper discusses evidence for the participation of organic radicals as intermediates in these reactions. Theoretical and model studies supporting the intermediacy of radicals in the reactions catalysed by the enzymes diol dehydratase and alpha-methyleneglutarate mutase are described. For the model studies, alkyl radicals, alkylcobaloximes (alkyl represents, for example, ethoxycarbonyl substituted, but-3-enyl and cyclopropylmethyl) and also dihydroxyalkylcobalamins have been investigated. The Co-C alpha-C beta angle of 125 degrees in adenosylcobalamin is shown to be an 'especial' angle by analysis of the crystal structures of R- and S-2,3-dihydroxypropylcobalamin.

In vitro capacity and in vivo antioxidant potency of sedimental extract of Tinospora cordifolia in streptozotocin induced type 2 diabetes

Objective: The role of herbs against the free radicals have been put forth recently in combating many diseases. The aim of this study was to elucidate the in vitro capacity and in vivo antioxidant properties of sedimental extract of Tinospora cordifolia (SETc). Materials and Methods: SETcwas subjected to in vitro chemical analysis such as 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide, hydr...

Analysis of cellular responses to free radicals: focus on exercise and skeletal muscle.

Muscular exercise results in an increased production of radicals and other forms of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recent evidence suggests that radicals and other ROS are an underlying aetiology in exercise-induced disturbances in muscle redox status. These exercise-induced redox disturbances in skeletal muscle are postulated to contribute to both muscle fatigue and/or exercise-induced muscle ...

Engineering reactions in crystalline solids: photochemical generation of secondary and tertiary enol radical pairs from crystalline ketodiesters.

The photochemical decarbonylation of several crystalline 1,3-acetonedicarboxylates has been analyzed in solution and in the solid state. It is shown that the efficiency of the solid-state reaction depends on the stability of the intermediate acyl-alkyl and alkyl-alkyl radical pairs. Reactions proceeding through tertiary enol radicals are more efficient than reactions proceeding through secondar...

مقایسه سطح سرمی ویتامین B12 و علائم و نشانه‌های عصبی در بیماران دیابتی خوب کنترل شده با بیماران دیابتی بد کنترل شده

Some studies have shown the relief of neurosensory signs in diabetic patients by vitamin B12 supplementation. Symptomatic therapy is not a goal in medicine therefore, for detecting causes of this relief, vitamin B12 level was compared in poor and well-controlled diabetic patients in this study. Diabetes mellitus, which is the most common metabolic disease, has systemic effect on ...
